What a great start to the school year we have had!
I have been having a BLAST learning with our new friends this year. They are a kind, cooperative and energetic group!
THANK YOU for all of the wonderful donations we received. We REALLY appreciate all of the cleaning wipes, markers, tissues, glue sticks and other items. Thank you.
Does this sound familiar?
Parent: "How was your day?"
Student: "Good."
Parent: "What did you do?"
Student: "Nothing."
HERE are some questions to ask your first grader about their day!
1. Can you tell me a book you chose for your good fit book bag?
2. What is your job this week?
3. How many days have you been in first grade?
4. What story did you listen to during Listen to Reading?
5. Who did you do Read to Someone with today?
6. What Word Work activity did you choose today?
7. Did you write in your journal today?
8. Did you play a game during math today?
9. During morning meeting, did you share something with the class?
10. Did you earn a Caught Ya Card?
The Daily 5
Students have been working hard to learn the expectations of the Daily 5. This is the framework we will use during our literacy block to ensure students are independently engaged in authentic, meaningful tasks when they are not working with a teacher. We have created I-charts for each of the Daily 5 literacy activities. They have been practicing the 10 steps to independence.
MATH DAILY 3
We have also started learning about the Math Daily 3. This is the framework we will use during our math block to ensure students are engaged in meaningful work when they are not receiving direct instruction from a teacher.
Ask your child about the Daily 5 and the Math Daily 3!
